The Taiwanese tech startup ecosystem is brimming with entrepreneurs with novel and marketable ideas, thanks to efforts from organisations like Taiwan Tech Arena

No longer just content to be seen as a manufacturing hub, the Taiwan tech industry is banking on its expertise in hardware and original design manufacturing (ODM) to rejuvenate its entrepreneurial scene and become a strong player in the regional and international tech ecosystem.

Organisations such as Taiwan Tech Arena (TTA), back by Ministry of Science and Technology of Taiwan, have sprung up to promote and lend support to this new economy.

TTA empowers local entrepreneurs, especially those with deep technology academic and research background, through accelerator programmes and investment incentives. Additionally, it has set up offices in Silicon Valley via its “Taiwan Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (TIEC)” program to establish a two-way link between Taiwan and the world’s most vibrant tech startup ecosystem, so that Taiwanese startups will be able to benefit from international insights, perspectives and networks.

In the upcoming Echelon Asia Summit, Taiwan Tech Arena is featuring 10 fresh Taiwanese startups looking to unveil a range of innovative solutions and products — from 3D printers, blood pressure monitors, cryptowallets and more — that will make a tangible impact on not just enterprises but ordinary people’s lives.

Here’s a look at these shining stars of Taiwan’s tech scene!

Accurate Meditech

Accurate has developed an ambulatory blood pressure monitor (meaning it can be used while in movement).

Called Accurate 24, the sphygmomanometer can measure the patient’s blood pressure 24/7, all without disturbing their sleep. The device also sends reports of their vital signs to a doctor remotely.

AP Plasma Corporation

AP Plasma is a corporation that has put “going green” the centrepiece of its business philosophy. Its technology enables manufacturers such as those making shoes or medical aids to leap ahead in eco-friendly manufacturing.

For example, its air plasma technology uses air as primers to make shoes instead of the traditional adhesives such as glue.

Chelpis

Chelpis is a Product-as-a-Service (PaaS) company that is able to develop a wide range of tech solutions. These include cloud-based mobile apps; cryptowallets; IoT sensors; and customised CRM solutions and blockchain-based SaaS products.

ELECLEAN Co., Ltd.

ElECLEAN has developed a portable device that turns water into safe disinfectant. Users fill the device with water and turn a switch, which activates a nano-catalysis electrochemical process. The water in the device is then transformed into ROS (Reactive Oxygen Species) that kills off viruses and bacteria by oxidizing method.

There are no harmful preservatives in this disinfectant spray and it’s easy to use and carry around so it’s a really cool product.

FaceHeart

FaceHeart is an AI company that has developed a video-based monitoring system called the eBus. The system aims to reduce traffic accidents by leveraging its ability to monitor a drivers’ physiological status and behaviour by using face detection and recognition.

When the system detects abnormal signs of driver behaviour, it will send a warning alert to the driver or to relevant authorities. This technology is already being applied to some buses in Taiwan

Zymolo

There are a lot of harmful bacteria that can affect the body, especially the skin. Zymolo has developed a product called the “F68 duplex polymerSkin probiotics”, which can significantly inhibit melanocyte growth and balance distribution of skin microbal communities, which will reduce acne and other skin diseases.

PicSee Inc.

PicSee is a company that develops link shortener for marketers to use on different social media channels. Besides reducing the length of links, the product also allows users to personalise their preview title and image link. Companies who use their product can expect to earn 150 per cent more likes.

Taiwan 3D Tech

Taiwan 3D Tech’s T3D is an app that allows users to use their smartphone to print 3D parts by relying on the light emitted from the phone’s display (its patented visible light resin) and a cloud computing service.

Winnoz Technology, Inc.

Winnoz has developed two IoT and AI-powered portable healthtech devices. Its first product, HalimTM, is a blood-sampling device that collects blood samples under a minute.

The second is its eGGiTM device which allows users to detect nucleotides in whole blood samples without sample preprocessing and deliver results in one hour. Winnoz AI is able to analyse the results obtained and estimate the user’s risk of contracting a certain disease.
