Noddapp, a Mumbai-based startup providing an networking app that helps individuals to discover and meet like-minded people through innovative curated experiences using data analytics, experiences and algorithms, has secured INR1 crore (US$147,000) in funding from 11 entrepreneur-turned-investors.

The funds will be used to scale up operations and expansion across major metros like New Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Chennai. A part of the investment will also be directed towards building a strong team and technology.

The company was incepted in March 2016 by Shubham Rai (CEO), Praleed Suvarna(CTO), Rohaan Haval and Arpit Bhajpai. Nodd app is an exclusive networking brand globally that follows a reference-based model to onboard new members to their platform.

The app helps individuals to network with achievers across different walks of life who have excelled in the academic and professional environment. Nodd targets the top 10 per cent of the global population which amounts to around top 170 Million people of the world, including millionaires, educational achievers, entrepreneurs and professional achievers who love to network for mainly three reasons — business utility, learning and glamour.

VoLT

VoLT, an edtech startup that simplifies vocabulary learning process, has raised an undisclosed amount of seed funding from YMS Mobitech, a tech-based distribution company.

VoLT (Vocabulary Learning Technique), a product of Edutainment Spearheads, uses creative teaching methodologies, ‘Law of Association’ of psychology, innovative approach of mnemonics, funny stories, anecdotes and coloured pictures to increase retention.

Since launch, VoLT’s Android app has seen over 300,000 downloads, registering monthly growth of close to 125 per cent with over 20 million words learnt till date, the company said in a statement.

Abhishek Jain, Founder of VoLT, said: “Daily over 30 million people search the web for meanings of various words. With VoLT app, we are targeting a wide range of audience using an innovative, neural-linking process that has a user-friendly interface and is highly addictive. With our offline products like books and games slated to be launched by December-end, we target to become the most powerful and widely-consumed vocabulary learning resource in India catering to school students, aspirants of competitive exams like CAT, GRE, BANK PO, SSC etc, job seekers and English enthusiasts.”

Awesummly, an online platform in India that features real-time summarised news with the assistance of artificial intelligence, has bagged INR1 crore (US$147,000) in investment from Vivek Bhargava, CEO of iProspect, and Ameera Shah, owner of Metropolis Healthcare.

The funding was facilitated by The Vault, a reality TV show that gives aspiring entrepreneurs a unique opportunity to pitch their business ideas to a panel of investors on television and persuade them to invest money in their ventures. The objective of the show is to give TV exposure to innovative business ideas, highlighting what goes on behind closed doors during an entrepreneur-investor funding pitch.
