Michael & Susan Dell Foundation backed test preparation startup OnlineTyari has acquired Plix, a photo- and video-sharing platform.
Plix’s talented skillsets in the field of Machine Learning and Pattern Recognition will be used by OnlineTyari to augment adaptive learning and bring more value to its users in creating a more personalised experience on its platform, according to a statement.
OnlineTyari and Plix, both based in Gurgaon, will integrate within the next couple of months. With this acquisition, OnlineTyari will now be a 75-employee strong team.

OnlineTyari Co-founder and CEO Vipin Agarwal said: “Our goal is to improve education and skill development for more than 100 million Indians each year. With Plix, and the talent they bring to our team in the field of machine learning, image recognition and analytics, we will be able to deliver on multiple use cases for our users that will solve challenges around making the platform more intelligent and scalable. Plix was founded in 2015 by Apurv Chawla. The app alerts users to their photos taken by their friends. Plix allows people to share entire albums with friends with the added feature of auto-suggesting names of people in the pic based on face and object recognition. It also lets users know which of their friends have pictures or videos which were never shared, and can be requested with just a click.
The startup has previously raised US$500,000 from Instalabs, an apps incubator.
Founded in 2014 by Bhola Ram Meena and Vipin Agarwal, OnlineTyari is a mobile-first multilingual platform for skill development and career preparation. It offers customised, curated and vernacular test preparation content, delivered through very low internet bandwidths. The preparation materials include full mock tests and current affairs articles.

The startup has partnered with coaching institutes, independent tutors and publishers to provide contemporary material for various exams.
The company has recently raised Series A investment from Michael & Susan Dell Foundation and Contrarian Capital. It also counts 500 Startups, Tracxn Labs, Globevestor, Vikram Chachra of Eight Capital, Mohandas Pai from 3one4 Capital, and Aloke Bajpai, Co-founder and CEO of Ixigo, among its angel investors.
The app has more than 4 million downloads so far.
In August last year, Toppr, another online test preparation platform in India, acquired rival EasyPrep for an undisclosed amount.
