Currently, METUB already has 400 content channels and claims to log 600 million views monthly

Vietnam-based online video and talent network METUB Network has announced it has been acquired by Kuala Lumpur-based YouTube Multi-Channel Network (MCN) WebTVAsia.

The acquisition will give METUB access to WebTVAsia’s regional network in Asia. These will include its YouTube stars, production and talent development expertise, and its IP portfolio. Additionally, METUB will be able to distribute its Vietnamese content to a wider audience.

“The deal also immediately helps WebTVAsia becomes a big player in Vietnam. Our strength is in professional production, METUB Network and Netlink Online Corp, who has incubated METUB, have great tracking record in communications, technology and talent development. We believe the partnership will help bring METUB Network to become No.1 YouTube MCN in Vietnam,” said WebTVAsia Vietnam CEO, Oh Thong Srinoonm.

The first joint project between the two companies will be an entertainment programme called DUET.

Launched in 2013, WebTVAsia produces and distributes online video content across 600 channels in over 9 Asian markets including China, Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore. It claims to have logged over two billion views and has a subscriber base of 12 million.

METUB was launched in 2014. It is focussed on the Vietnamese market, managing over 400 online video channels. It claims to have logged over 600 million views monthly and has a reach of 12 million followers.

In the same press conference, METUB also announced it will collaborate with Vietnamese Television (VTV) to manage and publish content not only on YouTube, but also VTV’s own digital content platform.

“We realise that the audiences are changing their entertainment habits into online. Thus, digital is our indispensable strategy for us to approach the young audience,” said Ngoc Tieu Vu, Vice-president of Digital Content Center of VTV.

METUB also inked partnerships with two Vietnamese talent management companies — M-TP Entertainment Company and Stars Park. Together they will jointly develop YouTube and entertainment content for their portfolio of artists.
