Burnout is a real threat in the startup world. You can prevent it if you set realistic goals, delegate non-core tasks, motivate yourself, and go for occasional breaks
The entrepreneurial journey isn’t easy. Oops, I’ve made a mistake. Let me correct it.
The entrepreneurial journey is damn hard. So difficult the path to success is that 9 out to 10 startups fail. Even the successful one (1 out of 10) feels crunched for time and overburdened with work at some time, which can lead to burnout if nothing is done to check the situation.
My friend, startup burnout is as real as it gets. Is there any way to avoid startup burnout?
The answer is Yes. When you feel you’re heading toward burnout, you should take corrective measures to bust it.
In today’s post, I’m going to share with you the top 5 ways to avoid startup burnout.
After reading this post, you will know the 5 proven tactics to keep burnout at bay.
Without further ado, let’s explore these tactics:
1. Set realistic goals
If you go into the genesis of why startup owners feel burnout, you will find that the real culprits are fatigue and disappointments. And needless to say, fatigue and disappointments set in when you are trying to achieve what is beyond of your limits.
I mean, it is good to aim for high, but not at the cost of perpetual fatigue and disappointments.
“The solution is to set more conservative expectations for yourself and your business, in terms of your goals, hopes, daily tasks and everything in between,” says Jayson DeMers in his blog post on Entrepreneur.
So, my friend, set realistic goals. Or I’d suggest you that you should divide your goals into small targets.
2. Delegate non-core task
You are not Superman. So don’t act like the one.
The point here is:
You cannot complete all the tasks with the same efficiency.
So you shouldn’t entangle with the non-core tasks, such as social media management, making travel arrangement, or Internet research, etc.
Make sure you spend your time on high-value tasks, such as searching for new markets for your business, making marketing strategies, keeping tabs on your competitors, etc.
Here are the top 3 benefits of delegation:
- Save time
- Achieve more
- Increase your value as you will be taking on only challenging tasks
If you delegate non-core tasks, you will have more time to meet your actual business goals, and you will feel less drained.
3. Motivate yourself
When burnout begins to step in, you should try to motivate yourself. It is the time that you should look back and think why you started.
You wanted to quit 9-to-5 grind, you were having a unique idea, and you want to be your own boss. Well, you are having all this. You’re running your startup business.
However, the course of a startup never runs smooth. You should understand that.
When dark clouds overpower your inner sun, think about the time you started out your business. That time, you were brimming with confidence and positive energy.
Believe me, my friend, thinking about why you started will give you the much-needed boost.
4. Eat, play, sleep
Startup owners need more sleep than usual when they are feeling burnout. Sleep is a great remedy to restore body and mind.
And having proper food with lots of greens, lean proteins, and veggies will help you put back on the track.

If you don’t play with your Jr. when you reach home, start doing it. You will feel a lot better if you spend some quality time with your family members.
Get a life outside your work. This will help you overcome burnout quickly.
5. Go for a trip
It is a human psychology that many of us feel guilty when we don’t work. If you are one of them, you need to change your perspective.
“Ditch any guilt you might feel about stopping work”, schedule some you time in your planner and make this relaxation time a priority.”
A family vacation not only rejuvenates your body and mind but also strengthens bonds between family members.
And it has been proved in many scientific studies that vacations are good for health.
My friend, even a weekend trip to a relaxing place has the power to fight startup burnout.
Conclusion
Burnout is a real threat in the startup world. You can avoid it if you set realistic goals, delegate non-core tasks, motivate yourself, and go for occasional trips.
Also, eating a nutritional diet, sleeping properly, and playing with friends and family members can be a lot helpful in putting you back on the track.
