OJK extends P2P lending license application deadline

The Indonesian Financial Services Authority (OJK) announced that it has extended the deadline for P2P lending startups to apply for a license, from the previous deadline of June 29.

In January, the OJK has released a new regulation that obliges P2P lending platforms to register to obtain a license. Following registration, startups will receive a proof of registration.

By today, of all 28 companies who had applied, only three had received their proof of registration: PT Pasar Dana Pinjaman (Danamas), PT Danakita Data Prima, and PT Lunaria Annua Teknologi (KoinWorks).

According to Director of Financing Institute Supervisory Tuahta Aloysius Saragih, the decision was taken considering the high failure rate among startups.

“When the deadline [for registration] has passed and there are still companies who have not received their proof of registration, then we will have a look at it,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian Fintech Association (AFTECH Indonesia) had called for the government agency to make the registration process “less difficult.”

According to AFTECH Indonesia Director of Public Policy M. Ajisatria Sulaeiman, the requirements for the registration process are deemed “too technical.”

He gave an example of a point that requires startups to provide a proof of transfer for their working capital, with the minimum value IDR1 billion (US$75,000).
