Aiming startups based in Jakarta, the programme will help them secure office spaces by distributing passes to 100 eligible companies

The Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta, the Jakarta SmartCity initiative, and a number of coworking spaces operating in the city announced a new scheme to help startups secure office spaces, according to a DailySocial report.

Jakarta-based coworking spaces such as Jakarta Creative Hub, North Jakarta Entrepreneur Center (NJEC), EV Hive, vOffice, and Servio, as well as venture capital firms Kejora Ventures and East Ventures, are taking part in the programme.

Dubbed as a “scholarship”, the programme offers free 50 virtual office and 50 coworking space passes for eligible startups as part of the provincial government’s goal to foster entrepreneurship in the city.

Apart from office facilities, the passes also give startups access to events, network, and mentoring.

The virtual office passes also include assistance in registering business domicile.

To be eligible for the coworking space passes, startups have to fulfill the following criteria:

  • The founder(s) have to be a citizen of Jakarta as proven by a valid ID card
  • The startup has to submit a one-year business plan proposal
  • The startup has no office space yet
  • The startup is not a subsidiary of any other company

As for the virtual office passes, startups have to fulfill the following criteria:

  • The founder(s) have to be a citizen of Jakarta as proven by a valid ID card
  • The startup has to submit a one-year business plan proposal
  • The startup is obliged to rent the virtual office space for at least 12 months
  • The startup has no office space yet

The application deadline for the programme is December 31, 2017.

According to Edy Djunaedy, head of the provincial investment coordination and integrated services agency (BPTSP), virtual office spaces in Jakarta has secured “tens of thousands” of users, indicating a strong demand from business owners for the spaces.

He also said that BPTSP is on a mission to move Jakarta’s position into the top 40 places with ease of doing business on a global level.
