Winners and finalists of TechInAsia Arena Startup Pitch Battle 2017

Indonesian logistics platform Andalin has been named as the first winner of the Arena Startup Pitch Battle 2017 competition today in Central Jakarta, as part of the TechInAsia Jakarta 2017 event.

Andalin brings home a cash prize of S$5,000 (US$3,600).

Andalin is a Jakarta-based startup that provides one-stop cross-border logistics platform for small and medium-sized enterprises. Founded by CEO Rifki Pratomo, the platform was one of the winners of Indosat Ooredoo-backed accelerator programme Ideabox and part of the sixth batch of Founders Institute.

In addition to the startup, the competition also named GY Networks and SpotDraft as the second and third winners.

South Korea’s GY Networks utilises artificial intelligence (AI) to build a surveillance system that is able to detect and respond to accidents or assaults in elevators.

The startup was inspired by the high number of violent crimes happening in elevators in the country; it decided to expand the function of a CCTV unit beyond recording an incident. Using GY Networks’ technology, it will also be able to alert the security staffs of any incident.

The platform also has the ability to detect fire or the existence of flammable materials in the space it operates in.

Founded by a lawyer and a former Google engineer, the startup is looking to strengthen its presence in the Southeast Asian market before expanding to the US.

The finalists was judged by a panel that consists of Joseph Chan of AppWorks, Yash Sanskrityayan of Jungle Ventures, and Raditya Pratama of Ventura Capital.

While the majority of the finalists are startups from Indonesia, the competition also shortlisted startups from Switzerland, China, India, and South Korea.

The startup has received grants from the UN Volunteers, and is in early talks with the mayor of Bogor to implement the use of the platform in the city.

According to TuneMap Team Leader Pravitasari, the startup chose to begin its operation in Bandung due to its “strong walking culture” compared to other Indonesian cities, and has long-term goal to expand to Jakarta.

Another notable finalist is Hyku, which already has a presence in China, Singapore, Indonesia, and Canada.

Hyku is a video platform that implements the concept of “actionable advertisement.”

CEO and Founder Alex Qi gave an example of when viewers are viewing a video of an interview with basketball star Kobe Bryant. As the video is being played, the platform will also show links to various e-commerce sites that are selling Kobe Bryant jerseys. Using artificial intelligence, it will also detect the words that are being said in the interview and display links to relevant sites.

Naming YouTube as its competitor, Hyku also offers white label solutions for existing media companies, and has worked with Chinese state television broadcaster CCTV – Outlook TV.
