Imagine a blockchain network that pays us to meditate

There are a lot of distractions in modern life. Every ding or vibration of your phone pulls you away from the moment, and sometimes it can seem you spend more time responding to your electronic leash than you spend living. This is leading to a serious crisis of stress, and it can sometimes seem like there is nothing that can be done about it. Fortunately there is a way to address the stress epidemic: by using the same technology that is causing it to solve it.

Our brains are hard-wired to respond to stimuli, and these days that means our brains are getting their rewards from the constant influx of likes, comments, and emails. When you think about it there really is nothing more rewarding than posting about your day on social media and actually having people respond, is there?

Imagine taking that reward system and applying it to something that is actually good for you. We all know that yoga and meditation are good for us, but the reward is cumulative and takes time and effort to build up, and currently our brains are wired for immediate gratification. Gamification of wellness is the solution.

When you meditate you could earn cryptocurrency or points on a leaderboard. Apps can be programmed to deliver guided meditation, yoga instructions, relaxing music, and more for your efforts. All of this could be done on the blockchain to create both course materials and rewards for participation.

Wellness on the blockchain is actually a genius idea because it delivers the kind of stimuli your brain is already programmed to seek. It’s not easy to start a new habit, even if that habit is something you know will be good for you in the long run.
