beSUCCESS, a South Korean information portal for startups, has launched a new service called ‘Beginning‘, a platform designed to help connect businesses, investors and government agencies across borders.

Launched by beSUCCESS Founder and CEO James Jung, investors can build a ‘portfolio of interest’ from the Beginning database — something the company pitches as especially useful thanks to an extensive network from years of running beSUCCESS.

beSUCCESS is one of the most important sources of information for Korean startups (and the company runs the country’s largest startup conference in beGlobal), making the data a serious advantage for Beginning.

Within the portfolio, investors will be able to contact specific companies and receive news about product updates and releases.

“Here is our plan. We are currently building the largest data intelligence platform in Asia to house data on high-growth, high-potential companies across the region,” Jung told e27 via email.

“We use data on companies, such as financials, fundamentals, employee/end user growth, to feed into our machine learning algorithms. [The idea is] to get at intelligence data to assess the potential of the company in various growth trajectories using scoring metrics”.

Beginning will operate within the beSUCCESS corporation with substantial cooperation between the two entities — especially in the content and data territories.

Additionally, Beginning is partnering with the IBM Watson accelerator and says it will help provide increasingly sophisticated data analytic tools in the future.

The launch of Beginning is part of a grander objective for Jung: to create opportunities for wealth generation by connecting the correct people to the appropriate resources.

beSUCCESS hopes Beginning can open a channel for fast and transparent communication between relevant parties.

“We want to add value by making the asia startup industry more advanced and better connected [to] each other so that [the startup community] can find fair opportunities in doing business,” said Jung.

At the moment, anyone can explore the Begining platform by registering for a free account. However, premium users who pay a monthly fee will get access to more detailed performance indicators.
