BlueSky Funds and DKSH also participated in this round, which aims to support the company’s international expansion goals
Southeast Asian end-to-end e-commerce enabler aCommerce announced that it has raised an “eight-figure venture round” in US Dollars led by MDI Ventures, state-owned telco Telkom Indonesia’s corporate venture capital arm.
Australian investment company Blue Sky Funds and Switzerland-based global market expansion service company DiethelmKellerSiberHegner (DKSH) also participated in the round. In December 2015, aCommerce had also announced a different undisclosed round of investment from DKSH.
The company plans to use the investment to support its new market expansion to Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam, while also strengthening its position in current markets such as Thailand, the Philippines, and Indonesia.
It also plans to further build its core technology platform and infrastructure by building more ‘state-of-the-art’ fulfillment centres in all those markets.
“Partnering with MDI and Telkom group, essentially the Indonesian government’s technology arm, fits well with aCommerce’s vision of solving the e-commerce challenges of infrastructure, logistics, and payment systems in Southeast Asia’s largest and fastest growing market,” said Paul Srivorakul, Group CEO of aCommerce, in a written statement.

He also stated that the partnership with Telkom Indonesia through MDI Ventures is a strategic one and will help accelerate the development of e-commerce in the country.
Recently, aCommerce launched its new fulfillment centre in Cawang (East Jakarta) and new distribution hubs in various Indonesian cities.
Prior to this investment, MDI Ventures had already included in its portfolio several e-commerce enabler services such as adtech company Adskom, ‘conversational commerce’ company YesBoss, e-commerce email marketing suite Ematic and alternative payment gateway Codapay.
Telkom Indonesia itself has already been in the logistics business through its subsidiary Integrasi Logistik Cipta Solusi (ILCS). The company has been providing logistics solutions (payment and billing, vessel management, cargo and container management, cloud infrastructure, fleet management systems) to ports and companies since 2012.
“aCommerce brings deep domain expertise that will enable us to maximise our existing corporate initiatives. In return, aCommerce will be able to tap into the vast resources, user base, and digital ecosystem offered by Telkom Group,” said MDI Ventures CEO Nicko Widjaja.
The companies also mentioned about exploring “potential joint operations for e-logistics project” during their initial discussions.
