Singapore is the only country globally to see Amazon Prime Now jump into the top-10 most downloaded, and it owns the top spot

Amazon Prime Now hit Singapore with a bang — demand was so strong the company stopped accepting orders and reports emerged that Amazon began to employ taxi drivers to facilitate delivery (a move the Land Transport Authority clarified as not being technically legal).

The point is, the service was popular, and thanks to App Annie we do have a little bit of data to shed light on how people used the app in the first few days.

According to the company, the app was downloaded 2,500 times via the Apple Store on its launch day, which App Annie says is “at least as big” as Facebook’s highest day in 2017 (May 7).

“According to leading app analytics company, App Annie, Amazon Prime Now was the most downloaded app in Singapore on the Apple store on its launch day, 27 July,” the company told e27.

For comparison, Carousell’s top download day in 2017 was on January 2nd, when 1,200 people downloaded the app on iOS.

Over the next few days, iOS and Google Play Store downloads topped 11,000, as of Sunday, July 30.

All of these stats make Amazon Prime Now the current ‘most downloaded’ app in Singapore.

To compare globally, Singapore is the only country in the world to see Amazon Prime break into the top-10 most downloaded apps, much less #1. For iOS the next highest country is Spain at #23. (On Google Play, the highest rank Amazon Prime Now achieved outside of Singapore was #45 in the UK).

Even in its home country of the US, App Annie data shows that Amazon Prime Now never achieved the hype it got in Singapore. Its peak was #113 for iOS and #154 for Google Play Store. Last week, it fluctuated between the #721 and #562 (in the ‘shopping’ category it ranked from #48 to #35).

As one might expect from a product like Amazon Prime Now, the app averages about a three-star ranking with the vast majority of reviews being either 5-star or 1-star.
