Managing Director of Indonesian fashion e-commerce site Berrybenka, Danu Wicaksana, has stepped down from his position to lead state-owned mobile operator Telkomsel’s mobile payment arm Tcash.

According to his LinkedIn profile, starting from June his new designation will be Tcash CEO and SVP of Mobile Financial Services Telkomsel.

However, Wicaksana told e27 in a message that he will continue to be involved in Berrybenka as Strategic Advisor and minority passive shareholder.

“Basically Berrybenka is running well, and thankfully Jason [Lamuda, CEO] and I have built a team and system that is ready, hopefully,” he wrote.

Though he declined to share the reason behind his move, Wicaksana stresses that “all is good” with the e-commerce company.

“In fact, I am still in touch regularly with Jason and the others,” he wrote.

In a separate e-mail, Berrybenka spokesperson stated that Wicaksana does not resign from the company.

“He stepped down from Managing Director role in order to asume advisor role for Berrybenka,” the statement said.

In January, Berrybenka announced an “eight digit” US Dollar new investment from Maj Invest Private Equity, Asia Summit Capital, Softbank-Indosat Fund, and several undisclosed local investors.

The startup has been pushing for its online-to-offline (O2O) approach by hosting pop-up stores across the country and opening a permanent location in Pondok Indah Mal, South Jakarta.

In late 2016, it had to lay-off “a small” number of its employees.
