Founded in September 2012, e-commerce service Blanja is the result of a joint venture between national telco company Telkom Group and e-commerce giant eBay. On Monday, May 28, Blanja CEO Aulia E. Marinto announced his resignation from the position. He will return to Telkom Group as VP of Consumer, particularly for Telkom’s cable TV service IndiHome. Telkom Group is set to announce the new CEO for Blanja in the near future.

“My resignation is fully based on shareholders’ decision. I am going to hold a new position in Telkom Group. I am still unable to name Blanja’s new CEO who is going to replace myself. Everything will be Telkom Group’s hands. Just wait for the official announcement,” Marinto said.

As one of Telkom Group’s leading portfolio, Blanja has a relatively positive track record as an e-commerce service in Indonesia. Marinto expects that under the new leadership, Blanja will be able to further accelerate its growth.

Related to his position as Chairman of Indonesia e-Commerce Association (idEA), Marinto said that he will not continue on his leadership and is waiting for the results of new idEA Chairman selection process in the near future.

Blanja’s growth

Under Marinto’s leadership, Blanja is said to have experienced a two-fold increase in its annual Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) with more than 70 per cent increase in registered users since 2014. Highlighting on its unique selling points, Blanja’s strength lies in the synergy between the companies involved in it, be it Telkom Group or other state-owned enterprises.

“The implementation of this synergy has been proven to bring the Blanja brand up to this level. Both brands and SMEs recognise us as one of the leading choices to expand their business online,” Marinto said.

At the moment, there are 45,000 SMEs across Indonesia listed as merchants on the Blanja platform.

Following a rebranding with new logo and feature in early 2017, Blanja has increased the total transaction value to IDR2 trillion (US$150 million) in 2017.
