After attracting 10,000 participants last year, the tech conference will come back to Phnom Penh on October 12-13

BarCamp ASEAN 2019 has announced that it will kick off this year’s tech conference and community in Phnom Penh, for two days on October 12-13, 2019 at The Institute of Technology of Cambodia.

The event noted the success of last year’s conference –with 10,000 participants, 1,000 companies and institutions, and 100 speakers and topics– to be the reason to bring back the event this year with more volumes.

BarCamp ASEAN 2019 will moonlight around the theme “Together Towards Digital Future”. The event said that it “aspires to lead the dialogue of tech development in Cambodia by imagining the future of digitalisation: digital economy, digital citizenship, and industry 4.0”.

The 2-day event will allow attendees to explore a variety of activities such as breakout sessions, tech talks, panel discussions, startup and student showcase, and exhibitions.

The breakout sessions are the core activities of the event, as it aims to connect attendees of diverse backgrounds by offering topics to freely engage in, ranging from entry-level to professional, from business to software development, from tech to non-tech.

The final day will see a programme called SMART TechTalk, co-hosted by the event’s supporter Smart Axiata, to bring together tech leaders in Cambodia to engage in a conversation around the digital future of the country.

BarCamp is a global community that works together with different organisations and businesses to “create more impact in Cambodian society by sharing knowledge, creating a sharing space for innovators, and help develop human resources in different fields”. To date, the team claimed it has engaged 50,000 participants of which are students, professionals, and entrepreneurs, 1000 speakers, 20 universities, and 2000 companies and organisations.

Since 2008, BarCamp has organised the conference in Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville, Battambang, Siem Reap, Kampot, Takeo, Kampong Cham, Banteay Meanchey, Ratanakiri, and Steung Treng with different themes each year.
