Singapore Press Holdings and Mediacorp tie-up to launch advertising marketplace

The two major media organisations in Singapore announced today a possible joint venture with the goal of creating a one-stop-shop online advertising marketplace. According to Channel News Asia, Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) and Mediacorp signed a Memorandum of Understanding to eventually pursue the joint venture.

The marketplace is tentatively to be named Singapore Media Exchange and it will allow companies to buy online video and display advertising across media from both companies.

For context, SPH and Mediacorp are the only two local ‘mainstream media’ outlets in the city.

Japanese company that puts business cards in the cloud raises US$38 million Series D

Sansan Inc., a Japanese company that has built a cloud-based business-card management software, announced today it has raised a US$38 million Series D. The company wants to use the money to aggressively expand across Asia and it specifically pinpointed India as its next target.

The investment group was full of big-named firms that included Salesforce, Toyota, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp. and DCM Ventures.

Sansan’s flagship product, called ‘Eight’, lets people scan or manually input business cards into a data management system, which then helps people more efficiently use that information later.

FindYourSpace raises US$300,000 for Southeast Asia expansion

FindYourSpace, a Thailand-based real estate startup, raised US$300,000 from REAPRA Business Builder to enhance its application and facilitate expansion efforts. The startup will start by expanding across Thailand before turning its eye towards the rest of Southeast Asia.

FindYourSpace is an end-to-end real estate platform that offers services for property agents as well as people seeking to buy/rent a home. It has both a mobile and desktop app.

If FindYourSpace expands outside of Thailand, it will find stiff competition as companies like PropertyGuru, 99.co and iProperty are all battling for market share in Southeast Asia.

Grab announces feature in Jakarta to allow riders to hail nearby GrabBike drivers

The Southeast Asian ride-hailing giant Grab announced today it has officially launched its GrabNow feature. Instead of pre-booking an ojek ride, GrabNow allows people to hitch a ride with drivers who are nearby and online at the moment. The service will be available in the greater-Jakarta area.

GrabNow more accurately adheres to the traditional form of hailing an ojek ride, whereby people would step out of the building and just get a taxi from whoever was nearby and offering.

iflix is now available in Cambodia

The Southeast Asian video-streaming service, iflix, announced today it has launched in Cambodia. The service has thousands of the world’s top TV-shows and movies and users will get their first month for free. At launch, the most popular titles will offer Khmer subtitles.

Furthermore, as part of the launch iflix partnered with Smart, a Cambodian telecom, which will create data plans specifically tailored to streamers. Additionally, Smart customers will get an “up to three months unlimited access to iflix’s world-class service”.

A subscription in Cambodia will cost US$3 per month.
