Honestbee launches third-party B2B, B2C logistics service in Thailand

Southeast Asian online concierge and delivery service Honestbee today launched GOODSHIP, a logistics service to complement its existing e-grocery and food delivery services in Thailand.

Having operated in Bangkok a couple of months before the official launch, Honestbee GOODSHIP caters to B2B and B2C deliveries. It focusses on last-mile same-day or next-day e-commerce delivery; it will launch an on-demand delivery for end-customers within an hour “soon.”

Honestbee GOODSHIP aims to deliver 50,000 orders per day over the next 12 months.

The service is already available in Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines and Japan. The company plans to launch the service in more countries.

iflix appoints new Chief Commerce and Financial Officer

Video streaming platform iflix today announced the appointment of Anil Jhingan as its new Chief Commercial and Financial Officer, who had also been serving as non-executive director of the company since March 2016.

According to a press statement, Jhingan brings “over 17 years of experience and insight in the pay TV, media, and entertainment sectors” through his past executive positions at Sky, 21st Century Fox, and News Corporation.

In his current role as Group Director of M&A and International Development at Sky, he led the US$9 billion acquisitions of Sky Italia and Sky Deutschland.

The company also announced that current iflix CFO Georg Chmiel shifts to a new role as Non-Executive Chairman of iCar Asia, working closely with iCar Asia CEO Hamish Stone.

Catcha Group partners Chinese property developer in developing KLIC

 

Southeast Asian internet group Catcha Group on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hainan Resort Software Community Group (RSC Group) to form a strategic partnership to collaborate on the Kuala Lumpur Internet City (KLIC) project.

Held in conjunction with the ASEAN-China Youth Entrepreneurship Roundtable in Kuala Lumpur, through the partnership, both parties will explore potential avenues of collaboration in developing KLIC to become the region’s leading purpose-built digital hub.

The partnership will support the international market expansion of internet and digital companies within the RSC and KLIC ecosystem into Southeast Asia and China respectively.

Both parties have also agreed to explore the possibility of setting up an innovation fund to facilitate incubation and growth of new businesses within the ecosystem.

The RSC Group is behind the Hainan-based scientific and technical park, which houses companies such as Tencent, Kingsoft, NIIT and Sino-Soft.

According to a press statement, due to its strategic location, the park is “an important link” in China’s “One Belt and One Road” initiative strategy.

The partnership with Catcha Group will be the first that RSC Group has fostered in Southeast Asia, having had built partnerships in the US, India, Israel, and the EU.

Music video, social networking platform Tik-Tok launches in Asia

Beijing-based artificial intelligence (AI) company ByteDance today launched its music video and social networking platform Tik-Tok for the Asian market in Jakarta.

Available for both Android and iOS devices, Tik Tok allows users to quickly create and share short videos. It also includes a music library and special effects such as shaking and shivering with hip-hop and electronic music, hair dyeing, 3D stickers and props.

Already popular in China, Tik Tok has partnered with Chinese video platform iQIYI to curate a hip-hop talent show.

ByteDance implements its AI technology on the platform by enabling Tik Tok to understand user preferences and increase engagement.

The company also owns flagship app Toutiao, a news and information content platform.
