SPARK Demo Day

SPARK– the global acceleration programme that aims build up the Thai startups and is backed by Thailand’s National Innovation Agency (NIA) and Israel’s AGW Group (AGW) — held its 2nd Demo Day on March 30.

And just like before, it consists of an intensive eight-week long bootcamp during which startups will gain access to AGW’s network of Israeli mentors in the following expertise: Cybersecurity, Big Data and Analytics, Internet of Things (IoT), Fintech, as well as Startup Legal and Intellectual Property (IP).

Every month, two startups who excel during the programme will be given the chance to attend regional conferences every month in order to learn, network and foster new partnerships. In addition to this, every week SPARK is working on bringing in a new coach for workshops in the above mentioned fields. These workshops are meant to help startups in order to boost their performance and ensure they can build a sustainable and stable, long-term business.

From a total number of 50 applicants, 20 startups made it to the final pitching on the morning of March 30 but only 12 were selected for Batch 2. It was a tight selection process but finally the panel of judges have came up with a decision.

Here is the panel of judges:

  • Anix Lynch (Partner, Expara)
  • Barak Sharabi (CGS, Infinity Technologies).

Now, let’s take a look at the 12 selected startups.

1. Ooca (It’s Okay)

A telemedicine mobile application for patients who seek live professional counselling advice from psychologists in order to be more confident and increase their self-esteem. In addition, Ooca allows people to book appointments and choose the preferred doctor in advance.

2. MEiD

MEiD is a cloud-based healthcare platform that can be accessed anywhere in the world, using wristbands or other products as keys for access. It helps identify patient’s data and information. It has 2 main functions: an emergency button that can be activated anytime and an integrated program that records early symptoms of a potential disease.

3. CAP Ranger

An on-demand part-time job platform that connects students looking for a placement and companies recruiting on such positions. The applicants can submit their resume online.

4. Happen

It is an event platform which aims to maximize event organizers ROI by featuring a turnkey and white-labelled platform that enhances attendee experience and engagement as well as capturing audience’s insights and event’s impact.

5. Kooup

Kooup is the first horoscope dating app that uses Asian beliefs and perspective in horoscope as a tool to pull users. The process is to search and match the users with a person through algorithms that ranges from ancient Thai fortune methods or modern Chinese consolation matching.

6. iVET

iVet is developing innovative technologies for pets (mainly dogs and cats) that will be used by veterinarians when advising the treatment. In addition, iVet has a few established products with the brand “PETANEER”: Aquatrek, Pet Well Suit, Flexzwheels.

7. ENRES (Energy Response)

ENRES is an energy optimization platform that aims to help buildings reduce their electricity consumption around 30 per cent using IoT and AI technologies. Moreover, customers get recommendations and notifications to respond in real-time. Not only does the client save on building’s operation costs, but s/he will also help reduce energy for a more sustainable future.

8. PRIMO

Primo is an app used to compare promotions/benefits offered by different credit cards/loyalty cards that user actually own. Primo is using an algorithm that suggests the best promotions for each user, suggesting nearby deals and hot offers based on user’s interests.

9. FOODIE

Foodie is a next generation foodtech platform which unifies online orders, custom analytics, loyalties, automated campaigns, POS, contact centres, e-commerce and payments using its proprietary technology. Foodie is currently used by a variety of chain restaurants and is undergoing deployment within another large chain comprising of over 400+ stores.

10. Pastel Keyboard

Pastel Keyboard is an extension keyboard that offers different themes such as Sanrio’s character. In Thailand, Pastel Keyboard has been ranked among the top 5 companies. One of the main benefits is the fact that the user doesn’t need to switch into a different app, which is inconvenient.

11. CloudCommerce

CloudCommerce is a platform for cross-border e-commerce and e-logistics that uses API technology as platform business model. Customers can choose different couriers listed for the multiple destinations; shipment is made by air.

12. OneChat

OneChat is an automated e-commerce platform helping other companies to send messages to their customers. It’s a multi-language with a response rate of 1 minute automatically. There are more than 230,000 messages daily using OneChat. The main users are SMEs with more than 2.5 million responded chats over the past year.

The other 8 Thai startups who participated but didn’t make the cut were:

  • Kaojao (chatbot platform);
  • MuayThaiOK (new marketplace for Muay Thai training classes);
  • POS vision (sharing omnichannel sales platform);
  • Pushthetraffic (cloud system focused on serving SMEs);
  • RubBUDD (payment platform to integrate all digital type of payments);
  • Rynya (beauty box on subscription);
  • Vendday (retail solution for online stores);
  • Welly (platform used to hire physiotherapists near the user)
