Here’s a question for the community: More money, or better value?

We know it is easy to be the smart guy in the room and say “I will take US$500,000 in smart money.”

But are we really that smart?

Or should we just take US$5 million in dumb money — say, for argument’s sake, raised through crowdfunding?

That is 10 times the amount!

I ask this because a startup founder in Southeast Asia asked me this question privately. Honestly, I have no clue how best to advise him on this.

If you were to be asked the same question, what would you advise?

And if you have had experience choosing between “smart” and “dumb” money, what factors guided you in your decision?
