East Ventures, one of Southeast Asia’s most active VC investors, has just launched its first Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR) programme.
This programme is designed for those who have complementary skills to the firm, yet are still finding their next big thing.
The first two EIR are Steven Suliawan, former Co-founder of Loyalbox, and Zing Yang, former Associate Director of Investments at Temasek Holdings.

Prior to his new venture and East Ventures, Steven ran a startup called Loyalbox, an app-based loyalty with CRM for the retailer side. It had high growth, but had to discontinue due to very high churn rate and the lack of product-market fit.
Spending four months as an EIR, Steven provided the companies with fresh insights on their ground projects and sourcing talents to cover pain points to the companies.
East Ventures has also inducted Zing Yang, former entrepreneur and seasoned investor, to join as an EIR. Zing has been investing for over a decade.
She was formerly with Capital Group based out of the US, Singapore and London, before co-founding a company to expand biotechnology operations in the Americas.
She then joined Temasek Holdings and covered Southeast Asian markets where she also started becoming active in the early stage space. She also mentors startups across the region and angel invests.
“Often we meet with people whom we love to engage with, however they are still figuring out what they want to do next or finding the vertical that is interesting to them. Hence EIR programme was created to utilise their skills within the firm and also to get them to understand East Ventures more,” said Willson Cuaca, Managing Partner of East Ventures, in a press statement.
Founded in 2010, East Ventures is an early-stage fund focusing on consumer Internet, mobile startups and SaaS with offices in Singapore, Indonesia, Japan and the US.
