Hyperscale data centre provider AirTrunk has opened data centres in Sydney and Melbourne in 2017
Singapore-based “hyperscale” data centre AirTrunk has raised A$850 million in (US$621 million) funding, in the form of new senior secured debt facilities, according to various media reports.
The funding round also included participation from existing investors AirTrunk CEO and Founder Robin Khuda, Goldman Sachs, and TSSP.
The company will use the funding to support its expansion plan to Australia as well as other Asia Pacific markets.
According to Khuda, the expansion plan was driven by “growing demand” for large-scale wholesale data centres from large cloud, content, and enterprise customers in the Asia Pacific region.
In 2017, it has opened data centres in Sydney and Melbourne.
It has also hinted about opening a new facility in Hong Kong, in addition to its existing data centre in Singapore.
Founded in 2014, AirTrunk has secured a A$150 million (US$110 million) six-year term loan from ING Groep NV and Natixis SA in February last year.
It has also raised US$400 million in funding round co-led by Goldman Sachs and TPG Capital in the same year.
The funding round was said to be one of the highest ever raised by a startup in Asia Pacific.
