ShieldSquare, a Bengaluru-based startup that provides real-time bot prevention software for online businesses, has secured an undisclosed amount of funding from Venture Highway (through VH Capital). Vishy Poosala, Engineering Director at Facebook, and existing investors also participated in the round.

The financing will help ShieldSquare expand further into the global market, and also strategically enhance the product with new features.

“ShieldSquare has quickly become the trusted name in the bot prevention industry, and this has further been strengthened with the funding from marquee investors,” said Pavan Thatha, Co-founder and CEO of ShieldSquare. “With support from our investor partners, we will now be able to make strategic connects at Silicon Valley, giving us the opportunity to achieve a leadership position in safeguarding Internet businesses.”

Founded in 2013, ShieldSquare is a cloud-based, real-time bot prevention solution that helps online businesses differentiate between human and non-human traffic (bots) on their websites and mobile applications. ShieldSquare uses cutting-edge technologies to detect, categorise and take the right action on malicious bots and ensures zero false positives. It protects businesses against the threats of web scraping, form spam, and content theft.

With a worldwide footprint spanning 68 countries, ShieldSquare’s bot prevention solution is already processing billions of page visits every month, it said in a press release. Its customers like Axel Springer Group, Purch, and Navent, among others.

ShieldSquare had raised an undisclosed amount in funding from StartupXseed, a new fund co-launched by V Balakrishnan and TV Mohandas Pai (former top executives at Infosys) in August 2015.

Venture Highway was set up in 2015 by Samir Sood, a former business leader from Google, and advised by Neeraj Arora from Whatsapp. It looks to team up with the next generation of Indian entrepreneurs. Venture Highway invests in areas where they have extensive experience, relationships and where they believe they can be a trusted and valued partner to the portfolio companies.

“We are particularly impressed with the team, which in a short span of time has been able to build a robust product that is now displacing incumbents in Silicon Valley. Gaining the approval of some top names as customers is just a stepping stone for them and I look forward to them scaling greater heights,” said  Sood.
