The Myanmar-based startup wants to empower young women in the country

Female lifestyle platform For Her Myanmar has raised a six-figure funding from an international investor.

The investment amount and name of the investor were not disclosed.

The Myanmar-based startup will the newly-raised funding to offer more personalised services through its membership programme For Her Myanmar Club.

The club, which was established in 2017, has over 1,200 members, with a subsection that focusses on younger females. Together, they form a community of Burmese women who aspire to pick up new skills for self-improvement.

For example, the club conducts monthly events, such as a skin care talk with international experts from Bioderma, self- defence classes, and a beauty bar enabling young women to learn new hair styling, manicures and makeup techniques.

The club also offers a surprise gift box that contains health and beauty products and samples, vouchers and coupons. The items in the box usually are worth between 20,000 and 50,000 kyats (US$13 – 32.50) at retail price.

For Her Myanmar is already working with 60 brands, and with its fresh funding, is looking to extend its partnerships to more brands to bolster its membership perks.

Additionally, For Her Myanmar will use part of the funding to strengthen its online presence; this includes a mobile app that it will be releasing in the next three months.

The app offers female-focussed lifestyle content, as well as an e-commerce marketplace it developed via a collaboration with its sister company, last-mile delivery service Amyanpoh. The app also has a chat function that allows For Her Myanmar club members to communicate with each other.

“We are thankful for the support from our investors, who believe in our movement to empower young women in Myanmar through education, strong content and engagement,”  said the company’s Co-founder, Ma Nilar Myint, in an official press statement.

Founded in 2016, For Her Myanmar’s goal is to empower Burmese women by giving access to a variety of educational and motivational content and products. The platform publishes content about career, sexuality, health, business, media, travel and lifestyle.

To date, For Her Myanmar has published over 3,000 articles published, and has gained over 500,000 followers on Facebook and over 300,000 visitors to the website every month.

In the first half of this year, it ran a weekly, hour-long female-focussed lifestyle talk show – Eait Hti Ya Diary –  on the local channel MaeMadi.
