Drivers will be able to book the cars from the BlueSG app

For about S$5 (US$4) for every 15 minutes, or S$0.33 (US$0.24) per minute, eco-conscious Singapore drivers can rent one of BlueSG’s electric cars starting from December 12.

The catch is that they will have to subscribe to a yearly membership plan, which will set them back S$15 (US$11) per month.

BlueSG also offers a non-recurring weekly subscription plan, which charges S$0.50 (US$0.40) per minute.

Both plans require a minimum booking of 15 minutes.

80 vehicles will be available and users can book them via the BlueSG mobile app, which will be launched tomorrow.

BlueSG is a subsidiary of French transportation company Bolloré Group, which runs electric car-sharing programmes across major cities worldwide, such as Paris, Los Angeles, Torino and London.

Two months ago, BlueSG announced it will establish its APAC headquarters in Singapore as well as roll out its service in December.

It also wants to build an R&D centre here to improve its energy management and mobility solutions.

30 charging stations offering a total of 120 charging points will be launched by the year-end. These stations will be located in heartland towns, commercial areas, as well as industrial districts including the Science Park.

By 2020, BlueSG aims to build a fleet of 1,000 electric vehicles and 2,000 charging points.

It also wants to create 250 jobs in the country by 2021.
