SWITCH 2018 explores deep tech and how it weaves into our lifestyle
“I can actually see it all coming together now.”
This line was said to me by a doctor as we both sat on the floor of the airport talking about technology while waiting for our respective flights.
Said doctor just came from a demo of an AI system for hospital staffing and was quite amazed and optimistic about what new tech can do to improve healthcare. Beyond treatments, he said, technology can improve the total healthcare experience for both the patients and the providers.
The world is undergoing a continuous disruption to its status quo – technology has completely changed the game for all industries, innovation has affected how humans live, and there is a humming global excitement to see what we can come up with next.
As much as it seem like it is, there is no separating technology from our lifestyle. Everything that is being developed affects the way we live, the way we learn, the way we work, and even the way we interact with the planet.
Innovation and the development of new technologies happen because someone thought we could all do better and then went on to prove it.
Fundamental breakthroughs
When once we can clearly define the lines between industries, recent advancements have blurred them. Open innovation and collaboration between companies have led to the use of different tech into creating solutions far different from what they were initially built for.
Companies are now exploring how blockchain can be used beyond FinTech. Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning are being used to create solutions for healthcare, logistics, and environmental sustainability.
We are creating synergy between parts that, at face value, have nothing to do with each other, and creating solutions that solve key global issues.
That’s why I am excited about this year’s Singapore Week of Innovation and TeCHnology (SWITCH).
This year at SWITCH, various conferences and exhibitions will tackle deep tech and how technology and our lifestyles mix. There will be discussions on the ethics of using biotechnology to prolong human life. There will be insights shared about how diversity will help us grow and achieve our goals. Experts and enthusiasts from over 70 countries will come together to talk about the future of energy, the evolution of work, creating smart cities, and saving the earth, among other things.
Central to that is how technology affects the way we live, and how we can seamlessly weave it in.
With the tagline “Today’s Inventions, Tomorrow’s World”, SWITCH will feature exhibitions, conferences, workshops, and other activities revolving around open innovation, technology transfer, tech entrepreneurship, venture funding, and talent management.
