Genereal Electric is going to start a partnership with Platform E and an accelerator with SPRING
The American technology conglomerate General Electric (GE) announced yesterday a string of partnerships in Singapore to help build out Industrial Internet of Things technology.
The ‘keynote’ agreement was a deal with SP Group to develop Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) technology solutions to power network reliability and efficiency.
For e27 readers, the relevant nuggets were a separate agreement with SPRING Singapore to co-develop an incubation programme and a tie-up with Platform E to promote industrial internet entrepreneurship.
The Platform E deal is interesting because it marks a convergence of a massive global tech conglomerate with a local university entrepreneurship programme. Platform E is the entrepreneurship center at the Singapore Institute of Management.
The initiative will see students trained in entrepreneurship by a group of mentors from GE. They will also have access to GE’s Predix platform, a cloud-based platform that helps people connect to industrial machines.
“Platform E is excited about partnering with GE to open up many opportunities in IIOT that tap into verticals such as Smart Nation and regionalisation, both in Singapore and across ASEAN,” said Mr Tan Soo Jin, Chairman of SIM’s Governing Council.
As for the partnership with SPRING, it will involved a developed accelerator programme focussed on IIoT. In terms of verticals, this includes — but is not limited to — agile programming, machine learning, algorithms for asset performance management an cybersecurity.
One of the key goals of the programme is to grow GE’s Predix Marketplace — a platform that connects startups and SMEs to new customers through GE’s network.
This partnership will enable our start-ups and SMEs to level up their digital capabilities, enhance their competitiveness and scale up quickly,” said Mr Poon Hong Yuen, Chief Executive of SPRING Singapore.
SP Group Deal
GE’s deal with SP Group will involve engineers from both companies building data analytics and AI tool to enhance performance and reduce downtime on networks.
One of the cool aspects of the agreement will be the development of a digital twin. Ideally the goal is to use this twin to increase efficiencies for the end-user.
SP Group is an Asian utilities conglomerate that operates electric and gas transmission across the region. It has about 1.4 million customers in Singapore.
