On-demand services platform gojek leading has announced the launch of GoPlay, an on-demand video streaming service for Indonesian consumers.

GoPlay targets mainly smartphone users across Indonesia to have access to hundreds of films and television shows exclusive to the platform, particularly of local content.

The company also said that the platform will also produce new and exclusive content known as GoPlay Originals, in partnership with leading Indonesian production houses such as BASE Entertainment, Kalyana Shira Films, and Wahana Kreator.

The bundle plan at US$7 per month, which additionally provides users with GoFood delivery vouchers worth US$42

Kevin Aluwi, gojek Co-founder, commented, “Supported by Indonesia’s internet and smartphone penetration, GoPlay aims to be the bridge between millions of mobile audiences and the country’s growing entertainment industry. We hope to continue empowering homegrown talent with greater growth opportunities while creating better experiences for consumers across the country.”

Consumer enthusiasm for local content can be seen from the growing number of viewers of Indonesian films, which has increased from 36 million in 2016 to 46 million in 2018.

Edy Sulistyo, CEO of GoPlay, said, “Despite a rise in demand for local content and a growing number of mobile audiences in Indonesia, access has still been limited especially for consumers living outside of urban areas. With GoPlay, we aim to enable all Indonesian consumers to enjoy high-quality on-demand entertainment at their convenience, while providing a platform for local content producers to showcase their creative work.
