Prior to joining GOJEK, Lien worked at the National Research Foundation and the McKinsey Centre for Government (South-East Asia)

Indonesia-based ride-hailing unicorn GOJEK today announced the appointment of Lien Choong Luen as the General Manager of GOJEK Singapore.

GOJEK has set up its data science team in Singapore since 2017, before launching its beta ride-hailing service in late 2018.

As a General Manager, Lien will be responsible for the company’s commercial operations and other business operations in Singapore.

Prior to joining GOJEK, Lien was at the National Research Foundation (under the Prime Minister’s Office) where he worked to enhance innovation at companies in Singapore’s research and development ecosystem.

He had also spent five years as a strategy consultant, leading the McKinsey Centre for Government (South-East Asia) and serving clients in the technology and consumer industries.

Lien also had 11 years of experience as a Special Forces officer and senior commander in the Singapore Armed Forces.

Outside of his work in tech industry, Lien had served as a United Nations Peacekeeper in East Timor and helped reform the healthcare sector in Sierra Leone after the Ebola crisis.

He had lived and worked in China and Southeast Asia. In his spare time, he enjoys outdoor adventures and had climbed Mount Everest and went skiing to the North Pole.

“When I was a consultant studying innovation, I often cited GOJEK as an example of a regional success story that had a purpose-driven mission and used its platform to drive socio-economic mobility. Over the years, even as GOJEK has grown beyond a ride-hailing platform into a Super App providing a multitude of services, we remain focused on making a difference to society,” Lien said in a press statement.

“GOJEK is committed to Singapore for the long term. Since we introduced our beta ride-hailing service here, the response has been extremely positive and we will continue to fine-tune our offering to create the best experience for all our users,” he continued.
