Taiwan-based iCHEF claimed to be the first to integrate Facebook Rewards into their POS systems
Taiwan-based restaurant point-of-sale (POS) service provider iCHEF announced that it has integrated Facebook Rewards to its POS service, which is aimed at small- and medium-sized restaurants.
The startup claimed to be the first to integrate Facebook Rewards into their POS systems.
The Facebook Rewards integration works by automatically generating an exclusive QR Code on the receipt after checkout, leaving customers to just scan the QR code via Facebook App. Consumers no longer need to download new apps while visiting new stores, carry a variety of loyalty cards at all times, or offer their phone numbers at the checkout.
As for restaurant owners, since QR Codes are printed directly on receipts, new equipment is not needed for reward points collection.
Restaurant owners are also able to check on the status of reward points from the back-end system. This way, they can maintain customer relationships more effectively and stores can have a better understanding of how their business is doing through the iCHEF’s system.

The initiative was launched on the understanding of Taiwan’s diverse F&B industry as well as its “reward points collecting” culture, which is deeply integrated to consumers’ daily life.
Opening up F&B business in the country means having to compete in creating innovative experiences, leaving it a prime spot for early-adopting new technologies. However, iCHEF said, it is more difficult for small-sized restaurants to build their own POS and reward collecting systems compared to chained restaurants.
This is where Facebook steps in. The social media boasts 19 million active users accessing the platform every month, allowing iCHEF to cooperate with Facebook and create a POS system that fully integrates Facebook Reward system.
“As of today, iCHEF has been installed in more than 5,500 restaurants in Taiwan; and we managed to find small stores eager to manage membership in order to keep their customers. However, paper-based point collection cards are often thrown away, while virtual collection holds up the line. We are working with Facebook to co-develop and integrate Facebook Reward with iCHEF POS system in hopes to solve the problem with reward points collecting for both restaurant owners and consumers,” explained Ken Chen, co-founder of iCHEF.

So far, the company claimed there are nearly 150 restaurants and stores have applied for the new iCHEF POS since the new features have been launched.
