Southeast Asian subscription video-streaming platform iflix today announced the launch of Studio2:15, a creative production business for short-form video content.

The studio will create short-form video content for the iflix platform, involving international, regional, and local creative teams and talents. iflix will commission and produce collaborative projects for the studio.

The company also appointed digital media veteran Craig Galvin to lead the unit.

Galvin has two decades of experiences in content creation, business development and creative direction.

He recently served as Executive Producer for the Louder Together campaign by non-profit organisation Global Citizen. He was also one fo the founders of Australia’s The White Agency (now whiteGREY) and has produced award-winning campaigns for clients that include Commonwealth Bank and Tourism Australia.

In a press statement, iflix Chief Content Officer Sean Carey explained the reason behind the founding of Studio2:15.

“The creation of Studio2:15 marks a monumental step as we expand our content offering to capitalise on the rapidly growing demand for highly engaging and viral short-form content. Mobile users represent the lion’s share of internet traffic in our markets, and when it comes to mobile users, short ‘snackable’ content is king,” he said.

iflix service is currently available in Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Brunei, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Myanmar, Vietnam, the Maldives, Kuwait, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Iraq, Lebanon, Egypt, Sudan, Cambodia, Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Nepal, Bangladesh, and Zimbabwe.

It has recently appointed Diana Boo as country manager for its operations in Malaysia and Brunei.

The company’s latest funding round was a US$133 million investment led by US-based media giant Hearst. It has previously raised over US$75 million from investors that include Sky, Jungle Ventures, Catcha Group, and PT Elang Mahkota Teknologi Tbk (EMTEK Group).
