Sunway Iskandar, a township projects from Malaysian conglomerate Sunway Group, has expanded its startup & SME community builder, Big Wheel, to the township in Johor.

This Big Wheel’s third such space, following one each in Mount Austin (Malaysia) and Phnom Penh (Cambodia).

Big Wheel claims it is currently the largest SME community builder in Johor with 23,000 sqft of space. It has a cumulative floor space of 30,000 sqft across Malaysia and Cambodia.

Big Wheel operates lifestyle offices which comprise co-working spaces and event spaces complemented with services, such as business office, business consultation, corporate advisory, as well as management and administrative services.

Big Wheel intends to accept 400 clients into the new space with a targeted potential job creation for 1,000 high-skilled workers.

According to Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) CEO, Dr Ismail Bin Ibrahim, the new facility will help attract investments that contribute towards the region’s RM383 billion target and to its 800,000 jobs creation target by 2025.

Big Wheel has helped international and domestic clients in a variety of industries (including trading, manufacturing, e-commerce, automotive and transportation, professional services, blockchain, web and app development, finance, wellness and healthcare) ranging from startups to international companies from Singapore, Germany, Netherlands, Australia, China, Taiwan, Sri Lanka, Dubai, Hong Kong and Switzerland.

The Big Wheel Seedbank inside the facility comes equipped with a gym, café, and various lifestyle amenities across two stories.

As per this deal, NEC plans to invest RM100 million into the township of Sunway Iskandar, which will create skilled tech jobs and develop local ‘technopreneurs’ and tech-savvy talents within the economic growth corridor of Iskandar Malaysia.

NEC plans to explore implementing IoT and AI solutions to augment Sunway Iskandar’s safety and security, and building an Innovation Centre of Excellence in Sunway Iskandar with Sunway iLabs.
