It’s that time of the year again, when startups from all over Southeast Asia will gather at Singapore Expo on June 28-29 for the annual Echelon Asia Summit.

If you are from countries other than Singapore, you might be thinking of how you can maximise this visit, especially if you have one or two days before or after the event. Instead of lazying around in the hotel, you prefer to use it to have fun, make new connections, and even learn something new.

(Though, if you feel like sleeping in after two days of exhibitions and an after party, we are not going to judge you.)

The following are some of the coolest activities you can do in Singapore to complete your trip to Echelon:

1. Go to a VR movie theater
You may have seen some startups showcasing VR technologies during Echelon, so what about making the experience more complete by checking VR movie theaters in the city? Sandbox VR at Orchard Central offers titles such as Deadwood Mansion and The Curse of Davy Jones while Singapore First VR Cinema at Cathay Cineleisure has Jurassic Park and Zombieland.

Definitely a fun way to chill with your team after a busy day at Echelon.

2. Check out top tech giant offices –or Block71
The cool thing about offices of tech giants such as Google and Facebook is that they are always a pleasure to see –or take selfie in. But you have to manage your expectation, though. As there is a strong possibility that the general public are not allowed inside.

If you are curious about how Singapore supports its startups, head over to One-North to pay a visit to Block71 area.

While you are there, do not forget to have lunch at Timbre+. The chicken rice is to die for.

3. Try out coworking spaces
You may have read about all these coworking spaces on e27, so how about actually working in these places for a day? You will never know what kind of networking opportunities will present itself there.

(If you decided to work at Spacemob Ascent, don’t forget to say hi to us!)

4. Cool exhibitions at Marina Bay Sands
Apart from being a high-end hotel and shopping centre, Marina Bay Sands is also home to the ArtScience Museum, and we found some exhibitions that might trigger your curiosity. You can enjoy Future World, an exhibition that combines “art, science, magic, and metaphor” in its digital installations collection, the result of a collaboration with renowned Japanese interdisciplinary art collective teamLab.

You can also have fun and save the environment in Into The Wild, a virtual tree-planting experience brought to you by Google, Lenovo, and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF).

5. Secondhand books shopping
Looking to revamp your personal library? There are plenty of shops that specialise in second-handed bookstore in Bras Basah or Rochor. Spare some time to stroll around the area and check every shop. You will never know what you might find.

6. Great Singapore Sale to buy electronics –or anything, really
If your smartphone or laptop needs revamping, this is the perfect time to go shopping, as the Great Singapore Sale is on from June 8 to August 12, 2018. Some stores can offer up to 70 per cent discount during this sale season.

7. Changi Aiport
Don’t have time for any of the above? Then head over to Changi Airport. The airport is well-known for its mind-blowing facilities, which range from shopping centre, jacuzzi pool, and even a cinema. Waiting for a flight has never felt so good.
