Two travel companies MakeMyTrip and H.I.S participated in the round
India-based holiday marketplace GoFro has raised US$10 million from two major travel companies, Japan’s H.I.S. Co Ltd and India’s MakeMyTrip, which is also an existing investor.
GoFro will use the newly-raised financing to strengthen its technology platform, supply and agent network and expand into international markets. GoFro is also in talks with other investors who wish to participate in the round.
Launched in 2016 by Bonavita Technologies , GoFro aggregates travel packages from multiple travel marketplaces, including MakeMyTrip, Yatra, and TUI, on a single platform. The platform offers holiday packages at over 70 travel destinations spanning the globe.
GoFro also has a team of destination experts who offer online assisted booking.

“We are excited about this partnership and our journey forward as we launch the GoFro platform in Japan in the coming months. We have received great consumer traction in just a year of operations,” said Amitabh Misra, Founder and CEO, in an official press release.
“We now look forward to H.I.S.’s global reach and experience helping us enhance our global supply network and provide great holiday packages at competitive prices to our customers.”
According to a report by DNA India, there has been a considerable increase in the number of Indian tourists visiting Japan. In 2015, about 87,000 Indian tourists visited Japan, which is an increase of 18.4 per cent over the previous year. While that number is small compared to visitors from other Asian markets, it shows that India has a growing affection for Japan. And this new deal might spur more interest in the country.
