Freyr Energy, an India-based full-service solar solutions firm providing access to cheap energy, has closed a US$1.5 million Series A round from Impact Partners, a crowdfunding platform for impact investing.

Operated by Singapore-based Impact Investment Exchange (IIX), Impact Partners brought together a consortium of global investors including Netherlands-based C4D Partners and India-based angel investors. According to IIX’s impact assessment, the funding will expand access to reliable and affordable solar energy to 2,275 households and 2,975 businesses, enable 675 off-grid rural villages to enjoy electricity for the first time through micro-grids, and avoid 167,270 metric tons of CO2 emissions by 2022.

The funds will also be used to improves its technology platform, increase the strength of its sales and channel partner network and support the marketing activities to fuel future growth.

Established in 2014, Freyr is a triple bottom line impact enterprise—a company that generates social and environmental returns alongside financial profit—that helps homeowners, businesses, and remote villages to access and invest in solar energy while contributing to a cleaner planet. Freyr enables people to shift to solar energy by providing affordable rooftop systems for those underserved by the national power grid, and designing and building microgrid projects for remote villages and areas of social and economic unrest.

The firm has developed a proprietary technology platform and mobile application, SunPro, that makes it easier for anyone from any background to sell or install solar systems, and uses algorithms to identify the best solar solution for customers.

Verloop

Bangalore-based SaaS customer engagement automation provider, Verloop, has raises US$3 million in Series A investment round led by IDFC Parampara Fund, which invests in technology IP and innovation-themed startups.

Co-investors in this round include Infosys Co-founder Kris Gopalakrishnan, and Dr Ranjan Pai,  Chairman of the Manipal Education and Medical Group (MEMG).

The funding will be used to enhance the Verloop customer engagement platform as the company expands its team and scales operations to address the global market for automated customer services and marketing.

Verloop is promoted by GrowthStory, the venture-builder platform founded by serial entrepreneurs K Ganesh and Meena Ganesh.

Launched in 2016, Verloop.io is a language-agnostic platform that supports seven Indian languages. In addition, the company has developed a new messaging protocol and a patent-pending technology for bot to human handoff of conversations when it detects that the conversation can be better served by a human chat rep.

The company claims to have processed more than 120 million unique conversations so far. Verloop use-cases span marketing & Sales (lead generation qualification, conversational campaigns, upsell and cross-sell etc.), customer support (automated helpdesk, personalised onboarding of customers etc.) and celebrity brand management (persona management, engaging with fans, pre- and post- launch etc.).

Verloop was part of the YC (Y Combinator) Startup School 2017.
