Indonesian e-commerce and fintech startup Bukalapak today announced that it has promoted Fajrin Rasyid in the position of President of the company.

Previously, Rasyid was the CFO of the South Jakarta-based startup for seven years. He is also known as one of the co-founders of the company.

In a press statement, Bukalapak said that as President, Rasyid will be in charge of long term and strategic initiatives as well as partnerships with external parties.

Graduated from Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) with a 4.0 GPA, Rasyid started out his career as a consultant at Boston Consulting Group (BCG).

Throughout his career, Rasyid has won several awards including SWA magazine’s CFO of The Year and Endeavour Entrepreneur 2016.

He is also a candidate for chairman position at Indonesia E-Commerce Association (idEA).

“I am grateful for everything that I have achieved so far. But for me, to be able to contribute to the society is far more valuable than all these achievements put together,” Rasyid said.

Started out as an online marketplace for small- and medium-sized enterprises, Bukalapak has also expanded to the fintech sector with the launch of a mutual funds and gold trading services.

Its platform also offer ticket booking and bills payment services.

For the 2018 Ramadan season, Bukalapak offers a content streaming service for passengers of Java overland train services. A similar service is currently being developed by Indonesian ride-hailing giant Go-Jek, which is foraying into content creation.

The company is also developing an R&D centre in Bandung that will focus on machine learning and drone delivery.

In late 2017, Bukalapak CEO Achmad Zaky claimed that the company has achieved unicorn status through its latest funding round, which was undisclosed.
