Traveloka launches car rental business

Indonesian travel tech startup Traveloka launched several new features as the market nears Idul Fitri and school holiday season, with the latest being car rental service. The service followed the launch of bus ticket booking service, Traveloka Eats, and lending service PayLater.

Traveloka Senior Vice President of Business Development Christian Suwarna explained that the car rental service will complement the company’s effort to provide an integrated travel necessities in just one app. Renting cars will be as easy as booking flight and train tickets.

“After the launch of bus and mini-bus ticket booking service, Traveloka aims to continue fulfilling customers’ transportation needs through innovation and technology. The car rental service was launched as part of the company’s commitment in presenting a pleasant travel experience for customers,” Suwarna said in a press statement that DailySocial received on Friday, May 25.

The car rental service is working together with more than 100 rental service provider, presenting a standard car rental service with tariffs that include driver and 12-hour car rent. The service is already available in 11 cities including Jakarta, Denpasar, Medan, Jogjakarta, Makassar, Palembang, Malang, Balikpapan, Surabaya, Semarang, and Bandung.

The service also offers an option to purchase an all-inclusive package that includes gasoline fee, parking fee, toll fee, as well as driver’s meals and accommodation for inter-city service.

To rent a car, customers can book for service 12 hours before pick-up time. Users need to fill in details such as city, rental date, rental duration, and pick-up time. Then they will need to choose the car type and rental service provider that they want.

Once payment is done, Traveloka will verify and send booking vouchers to customers’ email.

The service is currently in beta stage and is temporarily available for Android devices only. Not all customers are able to use the service as it is being launched in stages. Prior to Traveloka, Tiket.com has also launched their car rental service.
