Winners of BTN Morgtech Hackathon are judged based on their capabilities in supporting the government’s One Million Houses programme

BTN Morgtech Hackathon concluded in Jakarta on Sunday with the announcement of Jogjakarta-based startup Celengan Properti as its first prize winner.

Dubbed as the first mortgage tech-focussed hackathon in Indonesia, the competition was hosted by state-owned Bank Tabungan Negara (BTN) in partnership with the Indonesia branch of Silicon Valley accelerator programme Plug and Play.

The event claimed to have secured 225 applications from local participants.

Celengan Properti builds a platform that allow users to crowdfund property ownership. The platform is also completed with a feature that allows users to monitor price fluctuation in real-time.

The startup won an IDR50 million (US$3,600) cash prize and a trip to Silicon Valley to study the US digital ecosystem.

It also won the opportunity to attend classes held by the Plug and Play Indonesia accelerator programme.

In addition to Celengan Properti, the event also named Wakanda team as second and Radya Playground as third winner.

Wakanda built the Hommy app which connects potential property buyers, banks, and property owners in one platform while Radya Playground built chatbot platform Tania CRM.

Both teams won a total of IDR50 million (US$3,600) cash prize.

In a press statement, BTN Director Budi Satria said that the winners were chosen for their capabilities in supporting the government’s “one million houses” programme, which aims to help the underserved population purchases homes.

“We will further develop the ideas that were born out of the BTN Morgtech Hackathon to build a digital ecosystem to support the One Million Houses programme,” he said.
