Grab announced the appointment of Badrodin Haiti as their new president commissioner on January 30
Rumours have been circulating since Thursday morning that Grab’s newly appointed president commissioner Badrodin Haiti, who also happens to be the former Chief of the Indonesian National Police, resigned from the position.
When e27 reached out to Grab spokesperson to confirm the news yesterday afternoon the company stated that the resignation rumour was untrue.
However, on Thursday night, Haiti finally spoke to the press to announce that he is not going to be Grab’s president commissioner.
“Yes, [it was cancelled],” he told Kumparan.
Haiti further explained that he had not formally accepted the offer from the company when the news of his appointment broke in January 30, despite his presence at the launch event of Grab4Indonesia master plan on February 2.
“At the time it was merely a discussion. I have no idea. They suddenly announced it,” he added.
He cited ethics as the main reason why decided to decline the offer from Grab, as he was already appointed as president commissioner of Indonesian state-owned construction company Waskita Karya.

“Though there were no legal restrictions [from acting as president commissary of two different companies], from ethical perspective, it doesn’t feel right,” Haiti said.
He also stated that he has communicated with Grab regarding his decision.
Haiti served as the Chief of the National Police from April 2015 to July 2016. He completed his education at the Police Academy (AKPOL) in 1982 and the Police Higher Education College (PTIK) in 1989, and has served in various Indonesian provinces such as Banten, Southeast Sulawesi, North Sumatera and East Java.
In a press statement, Grab Indonesia Managing Director Ridzki Kramadibrata stated that Haiti’s appointment will “play a guiding role” to ensure that the company “contributes constructively” to the implementation of new transport regulations and safety guidelines.
“Mr. Haiti has had a distinguished career in the Indonesia police force, serving the people of Indonesia for 35 years, and most recently as Chief of the Indonesian National Police, during which time he oversaw and made significant contributions in the areas of anti-terrorism, security, intelligence, and traffic management. He brings extensive experience working with government stakeholders and ensuring aligned interests among different stakeholders,” he said.
