In Indonesia, competition between on-demand transportation services has narrowed down to several major players. Big names such as Go-Jek, Grab, and Uber are three of the most well-known by the public.

According to a survey launched by US-based advertising agency Jana of the Indonesian market, Grab is the most downloaded app by January 2017. However, Go-Jek app has the most active user base.

The data unveiled by Jana measure the growth of active users between three on-demand transporation services in the country –Go-Jek, Grab, and Uber– starting from the year 2015. Between September 2015 to January 2016, the three services experiences growth in app installation, with all of them growing an average of two to three per cent each year.

Users who have downloaded the Uber app into their mobile devices grew by five per cent, much higher compared to its two competitors. The colourful diversification of services in the Go-Jek app

One of the reasons why Go-Jek is able to secure such a high number of daily active users is the different varieties of services offered in the platform. Go-Jek has expanded into other services such as food delivery, document delivery, and many more. When it comes to geographical reach, Go-Jek also has a stronger presence compared to the others.

Looking at the Jana survey and the map of competition between on-demand services, the focus is no longer on how they bring people from Point A to Point B. The competition is now focussing on how the service is able to integrate itself with other services, in order to serve the public. Starting from food delivery, instant courier, goods delivery, housekeeping, vehicle repair, to cashless payment service.
