LINE Indonesia Managing Director Ongki Kurniawan reportedly has resigned since June

LINE Indonesia Managing Director Ongki Kurniawan has resigned from his position since June, according to several media reports.

According to ongoing rumours, Kurniawan left the company to join Southeast Asian ride-hailing giant Grab’s digital payments arm GrabPay.

When contacted by e27, Grab spokesperson said that the company is going to release an official statement “as soon as it is ready.”

Prior to joining LINE in June 2016, Kurniawan was the Chief Digital Services Officer of telco company XL Axiata.

During his tenure at LINE, his achievements including integrating Mandiri eCash, a digital payment service belonging to state-owned Bank Mandiri, into the LINE Pay eCash service.

As with other ride-hailing startups such as Go-Jek, Grab has been pushing for to expand its digital payments arm GrabPay.

Earlier this year, the company has acquired O2O e-commerce startup Kudo.

It has also appointed Jason Thompson as new head of GrabPay. In an interview with e27, Thompson announced that the company has opened its payments services for non-transportation transactions; users in Singapore will soon be able to transfer credits to each other, followed by other Southeast Asian markets.

It is also looking to enable merchants to on-board the system and sell goods via Grab platform.
