A cloud-based communications platform, Whispir is going to use the funding to expand to Indonesia and other Southeast Asian countries

Corporate venture capital firm MDI Ventures, which operates under state-owned telco Telkom Group, announced that it has led a US$10 million post-Series A funding round for Australian communications platform Whispir. Existing investors Telstra Ventures and NSI Ventures also participated in the current round, which will be used to expand to Indonesia and other Southeast Asian countries.

Previously, Whispir has opened an office in Singapore to support innovation and expansion in the region.

Whispir is described as a cloud platform that automates communication process, making it easier to businesses to effectively interact with staffs, business partners, and clients. Whispir implements artificial intelligence (AI), IoT, and data analytics in developing their products.

Available in three continents, Whispir claimed to have secured more than 450 corporate clients. In Indonesia, Whispir is set to expand through TelkomTelstra, a joint venture between Telkom Indonesia and Telstra Australia.

MDI Ventures CEO Nicko Widjaja said in a press statement, “As part of our effort in expanding unified communications platform within our portfolio (which includes Wavecell and Kata.ai), Whispir brings in a new category by building smart automation platform for enterprises. They are the leader in this segment. Whispir has experienced strong growth in the past years and we welcome this partnership in building a business with Telkom Group and Telstra.”

Meanwhile Whispir Founder and CEO Jeromy Wells said that, “We are very excited to partner with Telko Indonesia and Telstra in this market. Businesses everywhere in Indonesia has begun its digital transformation. Whispir is able to provide a tech migration channel that is cost-effective and instantaneous.”
