From chatbots to drone games, Kazakhstan startups showcased products and services that have championed the local market

Echelon Asia Summit 2018 ended on June 29 following a series of panel discussions, fireside chats, The TOP100 Fight Club, and exhibitions of startups from across Asia –including Kazakhstan.

The startups participated in Echelon through Smart Zholy, an initiative by the Kazakh government to bridge between Southeast Asia and Central Asia through Singapore and Astana.

In addition to the startups, we have also seen a Kazakh startup among the regular exhibitors.

The following is the list of those startups:

Okauto
The platform offers service for notifications and payments of fine for traffic violations. With more than 150,000 monthly active users, Forbes has dubbed the startup as the fastest growing in the country. The startup also claimed that every ninth car owner uses its application now; it also aims to expand its service to other markets such as Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and even Southeast Asia.

It plans to monetise through sales of motor insurance, cashback loyalty service, and auto spare parts.

AILABS
The startup builds chatbot solutions for businesses to help reduce loads on call centres with solutions that consist of two parts: the widget and the software-as-a-service (SaaS).

It named Kazakh private bank Kazkommertsbank (QAZKOM), communications operator Transtelecom, and US captioned telephone service Caption Call as clients.

AILABS was founded in 2016 by researchers at Nazarbayev University.

KazMotors
An online marketplace for auto spare parts in the form of a mobile app. The startup claimed to have more than 60,000 downloads and 20 per cent customer satisfaction rate.

The startup plans to monetise by taking five per cent commission from each sale.

It is also considering to enter the Southeast Asian market, particularly Indonesia.

Nommi
The startup offers 4G hotspot with unlimited wi-fi worldwide, which it claimed to be the easiest way to stay connected for international travellers.

Nommi said that 33 per cent of its clients originate from the US with 20 per cent from Southeast Asia; it has also secured corporate agreements with companies such as PriceWaterhouseCoopers and Mars.

It has raised US$125,000 on a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo.

Game of Drones
A platform that enables users to play drone games from the comfort of home. In addition to providing contents that are constantly expanded by developer team, the startup also hosts drone gaming competition and provides game tote that allows users to earn real money.

Neupusti
A platform that promotes and mediates communication between youth, academia, entrepreneurs, NGOs, and educational organisations and activists in Central Asia. It provides information on scholarships, competitions, vacancies, seminars, and courses.

The startup claimed to have more than 70,000 unique visitors per month.

It is planning to launch in English for international audience.

Ivcbox
A regular exhibitor that was not part of the Smart Zholy programme.

The startup provides video widget for e-commerce websites to enable “online interactions that can match the quality of offline interactions.” The widget needs no installations and includes features such as live chat and video call.
