While his day-to-day job will not change a whole lot, Lints says the Partner tag is important for clarity when speaking with ecosystem stakeholders
Michael Lints, a Venture Capitalist at Golden Gate Ventures, has been promoted to the position of Partner, a role he says will help clarify his position within the firm.
Lints was approached about the position in late-2016 whereby the team discussed expectations regarding performance, dealflow and support for existing portfolio companies.
He told e27 that his job within Golden Gate has not changed much (he is focussed on fundraising and developing partnerships between portfolio companies and outside stakeholders). The Partner tag provides clarity when speaking with corporates, investors and other startups.
When asked why he thinks he was promoted, Lints answered:
“My ability to help develop meaningful partnerships on behalf of the portfolio. A good example is helping portfolio companies with later stage fundraising, introductions to corporations and family conglomerates.”
Looking ahead, Lints wants to help contribute to the maturation of the Southeast Asian tech ecosystem. In an environment in which regions are always comparing themselves with one another, Lints hopes he can turn Southeast Asia into a place that attracts global investors and corporates.
Finally, when asked what hurdles the ecosystem needs to overcome he pointed to the Golden State Warriors of the National Basketball Association. Widely considered one of the best teams ever assembled, the Warriors’ motto is “Strength in Numbers”. He thinks we, in Southeast Asia, need to take this mantra to heart.
“We’re all very bullish on Southeast Asia but need to start communicating more data about the potential and how we are maximising that potential. That will draw not only more investors but will drive acquisitions as well,” he said.
Lints joined Golden Gate Ventures in 2013. Previously he had been a Founding Partner at Best Dutch in The Netherlands.
