Called IskanderSpace, the co-working space is part of a larger effort by Malaysia to build up the development region
IskanderSpace, a new 8,000 sq. foot (743 sq. metres) co-working space, was launched today in Iskander Puteri, Malaysia as part of an effort to build-up the startup community in the state of Johor.
IskanderSpace was launched by Iskandar Investment Berhard (IIB) and is part of a place-making process by Kazanah Nasional Berhard (A Malaysian sovereign wealth fund).
To elaborate, the space is located in Afiniti Medini in the Iskandar development region, a massive infrastructure and development plan on the southern edge of Malaysia, right across the border from Singapore. The goal is to transform Iskander Puteri into a destination that would be attractive for people to live and work.
With a growing startup community in Malaysia and Singapore, the IskanderSpace is meant to attract the entrepreneur-class.
“The variety of workers means co-workers have unique skill sets that can be shared with other co-workers. This is very much in-line with with what IIB aspires to create in Iskander Malaysia. Community, collaboration, learning and sustainability are all part of IIB’s DNA,” said Encik Akmal Ahmad, the COO of IIB in a statement.
It is also an affordable option for new businesses. The cheapest rate is MYR150 (S$50) per month, a cost that would be nearly impossible to find in Singapore.
The IskanderSpace has the standard facilities of a typical co-working office; high-speed internet, an outdoor ‘chill out’ spot and an in-house café.
