The two cities are other major locations outside Jakarta where startups community are majorly based in Indonesia

National University of Singapore (NUS) Enterprise has announced its latest additions to Singapore-based entrepreneurial hub BLOCK71 in Yogyakarta and Bandung, in cooperation with conglomerate-owned company Salim Group.

The two additions are an immediate following on the establishment of BLOCK71 Jakarta in July last year.

Both BLOCK71 in Yogyakarta and Bandung look to support innovation and entrepreneurship development in their respective locations, by serving as an ecosystem builder and connector. Startups at these locations can utilise the incubation support, entrepreneurial initiatives (such as business competitions, conferences, and entrepreneurial events), and opportunities to pilot new ideas or technologies in the Indonesian market and abroad via the BLOCK71 network.

BLOCK71 offers to facilitate the two cities with access to BLOCK71’s networks in Jakarta (Indonesia), Singapore, Suzhou (China) and San Francisco (the United States) to expand to international markets.

BLOCK71 Yogyakarta is situated in a contemporary area across the Galeria Mall, while BLOCK71 Bandung is located along one of the busiest streets in the Dago area, near the Institute Teknologi Bandung (ITB). Officiating the opening ceremony was Mr. Anil Kumar Nayar, Singapore’s Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia.

“Our expansion in Indonesia is in tandem with the growth of the local entrepreneurial scene. NUS’ three BLOCK71 locations in Indonesia will facilitate information exchange, strengthen connectivity, and promote growth between the start-up ecosystems in Singapore and Indonesia, and abroad,” said NUS President Professor Tan Eng Chye.

Indonesia’s BLOCK71 is modeled after the ones in Singapore and each new location is located in close proximity to local universities with the aim to connect with the entrepreneurial scene in Indonesia.

“With this partnership, we would like to bring these initiatives to other continents such as Africa and China in the near future,” said Axton Salim, Executive Director of Salim Group.

Operations in the two locations will start in mid-October 2018 and the first group of start-ups will take up residence in BLOCK71 Yogyakarta and BLOCK71 Bandung in November 2018.
