Malaysian police has reclassified the death of Cradle Fund CEO Nazrin Hassan as possible murder.
Selangor CID Chief Senior Asst Comm Fadzil Ahmat told The Star that reclassification was based on the latest report by the Fire and Rescue Department and post-mortem findings.
“The sudden death report has been reclassified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code on August 3,” he said.
The investigation was performed 11 days after Hassan’s passing on the eve of Idul Fitri, a collaboration between the police and the department.
The police had taken “certain samples” to the forensic laboratory for further investigation.
The investigation revealed the finding of traces of petrol in the deceased’s room, leading to suspicion of foul play.
Hassan passed away on June 14 after fire caught his bedroom at a two-storey house in Mutiara Damansara. The cause of fire was initially thought as an accident, when his mobile phone exploded during charging.
Survived by his wife and four children, he became the CEO of Cradle Fund in 2007.
