Calcutta Angels Network and Augment Ventures participated in SeenIt’s latest round
Calcutta-based fashion recommendation platform SeenIt today announced that it has raised an undisclosed pre-Series A funding from Calcutta Angels Network (CAN) and Augment Ventures.
Described by CAN founder Pradyumna Dalmia as the “Quora for fashion”, SeenIt is a platform that helps users to discover where to buy the fashion items that they like.
To use the service, users only have to post an image of the fashion item that they want — taken from Instagram, Snapchat, or even tabloids — and other users will then jump in to help by “providing shoppable suggestions in order to recreate the look or get the same item.”
“We’ve had users ask where to buy Alia’s dress from the Koffee with Karan episode while the show was still airing on TV! That is something you can’t do on any other platform globally today and that helps us generate infinite content from our passionate users!” explained co-founder Saksham Karwal in a press statement.
According to the company, the gap between fashion inspiration and purchase is worth US$50 billion globally, and SeenIt has become a top five drivers of traffic for major fashion e-commerce platforms in India.

So far, the startup claims to have 500,000 monthly active users and “more than” 5,000 questions asked and answered in its platform every week, with each question taking about five to seven minutes to answer.
It has secured partnership with brands such as Nike, Puma, Koovs, The Label Life and Flyrobe.
The startup plans to use the new funding for talent acquisitions (particularly designers and engineers) and marketing to grow its outreach.
“We will soon be introducing a truly personalised feed and new revenue streams, including personalised ads and transactions on the platform,” said co-founder Vedanta Kumar.
SeenIt was founded in April 2015 by a trio of graduates from Wharton School, University of Philadelphia: Ankita Sancheti, Karwal and Kumar.
The startup graduated from the Axilor Ventures Accelerator Program. It also named Infoedge CEO Hitesh Oberoi and former Wipro CTO IVK Vijaya Kumar as advisors.
