Despite targeting three gold medals for Mobile Legends, Arena of Valor, and Hearthstone, Indonesia has to settle with a silver medal in SEA Games 2019 Philippines after losing to the host in Mobile Legends Bang Bang in best of five grand final, Tempo reported.

Philippines’ win marks its first-ever gold medal in the esports event at the Southeast Asian Games (SEA) 2019, beating Indonesia 3-2 in a fifth game to determine the gold medallists, Fox Sports Asia reported.

The Philippines’ team reportedly managed to climb their way up from the lower bracket playoffs to reach the top spot.

According to a report by Yahoo Singapore, before competing head to head with Indonesia, the Philippines’ Sibol team faced Malaysia’s team Bosskur in the lower bracket finals, with the hosts won the series 2-0.

The team’s name is Sibol, consists of Kenneth Jiane “Kenji” Villa, Karl Gabriel “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno, Carlito “Ribo” Ribo, Jeniel “Haze” Bata-anon, Angelo Kyle “Pheww” Arcangel, Allan Sancio “Lusty” Castromayor, and Jason Rafael “Jay” Torculas.

As per December 9, the Philippines has collected a total of 112 gold medals.

Meanwhile, Eddy Lim, the chairman of the Indonesian Esports Association (IESPA) said that the result is fair and that the team has given their best.

The Mobile Legends Indonesia team consists of Eko Julianto, Gustian, Putra, Ridwan, and Teguh Iman, who competed in the finale at Filoil Flying V Centre San Juan City, Philippines, on Sunday evening.
