If installing a smart lock is too cumbersome, this may be a more convenient solution
Singapore-based but US-incorporated startup igloohome has achieved considerable success with its smart lock device.
Since its founding in 2015, igloohome has rolled out its smart solution to the US, Australia, Thailand and Singapore. It also partnered with Airbnb to be its preferred “Keys & Access” vendor, and raised a cool US$1.25 million in a seed round led by Wavemaker Partners.
Now, igloohome is rolling out a solution for property owners or short-term rental hosts who wish to retain their traditional keys and avoid the hassle of replacing their conventional door locks.
The Smart Keybox is essentially a lock box that allows homeowners to store up to six keys or seven key cards. It can then be mounted onto walls or secured to door handles and railings.
Homeowners generate a PIN code via the app and send it over to the guests to unlock the Keybox. The code expires after a preset date.
Additionally, an Airbnb host can integrate their igloohome account with their Airbnb calendar at US$9.90 per month. The PIN codes and their expiration dates will then be generated automatically.

The Smart Keybox can also be unlocked via the smartphone’s Bluetooth once it is within range; no internet connection is required.
“The Keybox can be used by real estate agents to let different clients into properties for viewing, by staff on shift in the office, or even by homeowners to store their keys as a back-up. There is huge potential for the Keybox,” “said co-founder of igloohome Walter Wang, in a press release.
Currently, the igloohome Smart Keybox is available for pre-order at a promotional price of S$229 (US$165) in selected countries, including Japan, Korea, Australia and certain parts of Southeast Asia. It is expected to be shipped in early 2017.
