The Singapore government aims to invest data analytics, sensors and related software and systems

The Singapore government is calling for a projected S$2.4 billion (US$1.72 billion) in tech tenders in FY 2017.

It aims to invest in data analytics, sensors and related software and systems. This will include a tender for data analytics and another for communications infrastructure to link up data centres and IoT sensors, said an official press release.

On a related note, the government intends to ramp up the industrial usage of robotics. To this end, Temasek Polytechnic will be seeking an industry partner to develop an inventory robot that can use RFID technology to scan the print collection and navigate in its library. This will help make organisation of books more efficient.

The press release also mentioned that the government will continue investing in cybersecurity technology such as advanced threat analytics and automation.

“We will continue to work with the industry and provide them with the foundational support to build Singapore as a Smart Nation. On the other hand, companies will also need to boost their ICT and engineering capabilities in order to keep up with the fast-changing technological landscape.” said Jacqueline Poh, Chief Executive, GovTech.

She said that last year, SMEs accounted for about two-thirds of the ICT contracts awarded.
